The Initiative for Creative Arts (TIFCA) is a 501(c)(3) community-based organization based in Birmingham, AL that introduces and explores the history, philosophy, and elements of Hip Hop culture to foster and nurture creativity, healing, entrepreneurial, leadership, literacy, and life skills; building brighter futures through music, art, connection, science, technology, and mentorship. Since 2012, we have encouraged and provided space, and support for youth to become makers and producers in their communities and inspire youth to recognize their potential, and capacity for healing and positive self-expression through creative arts and community engagement.
The Initiative for Creatuve Arts (TIFCA) is committed to exposing youth to cultural arts and investing in their creative futures. Through Hip Hop we inspire, empower, build, innovate, heal, grow, create, and educate.

PROGRAMS
SHESHOCK HIP HOP ACADEMY
SheShock Hip Hop Academy is an introduction to beat making specifically for girls. Our girls learn technical skills, the art of beat making, and songwriting. Our goal in SheShock' Hip Hop Academy is to empower girls and young women to tell their stories through music production and performance. SSHHA provides a safe space where girls and young women can grow, learn, have fun, and develop confidence in their ability as creators, makers, and entrepreneurs.
BEATS + RHYMES + POETRY
Beats & Rhymes & Poetry is used as a vehicle to help young people more fully develop their writing, technical, business, performance, and collaborative skills. Explore all forms of music using live instruments, computer software, and recording equipment. While mainly focusing on the foundations of hip-hop, students express themselves through writing lyrics, creating beats, engineering tracks, and performance.
BUILD A BEAT WORKSHOP
Build A Beat: Music Tech + Production Workshop is an intro to the basics of drum programming, chopping samples, looping and adding effects with the use of midi-controllers and turntables to create fully arranged beats. Students work together to offer and share their unique voices and strengths in the creative process while building community.
HIP HOP + SOCIAL JUSTICE
The Hip Hop & Social Justice workshop looks at the ways in which the art of Hip Hop music and culture is involved in social justice issues and solutions and how it's used as a powerful and creative agent of change in the world and the communities which we live in.

MUSIC:
Our participants create amazing music during workshops and sessions. Creating with web-based DAW (Digital Audio Workstations), midi controllers, software, beat machines, and computers. During workshops, students, collaborate, problem-solve, inspire and motivate one another to make incredible sounds.
